Joondalup

After: Royal Perth

Before: Radio Land

So yes—Joondalup. If you play golf you must play golf at Joondalup. Like a carnival ride of the Great Game. The architect—a Robert Trent-Jones Jnr (chance are, he’s a Seppo) - has gone all abstract and medi-eval on the grass and earth around Joondalup, a site that was once a quarry but now resembles Luna Park for Golf-men. It’s a super track with more shots than a rabies clinic and the pictures don’t do it justice and if you too are a Golf-man then you should get on the next Virgin, Jetstar or Tiger Airlines (Motto: grrr) flight and go straight up to Joondalup and play it, before you even eat or check-in, just get out of the taxi and take your clubs and walk onto the first tee and belt the ball off it, don’t even tell the pro-shop staff just straight out of the taxi with your clubs and a ball, tell off and play Joondalup. It’s a ripper.

Shot: 127  (over 27 almost “weird” holes)
