Round 18, Wednesday, nov 19, 2008

Ratho GC in Bothwell, TAS

So yes—hickory stick olden days golfin’ on Australia’s oldest golf course—Ratho, which is not short for Rathboggin or Ratherberootin or something, but is just what the golf-crazed early Scottish people called it: Ratho. Quite Aussie isn’t it, Ratho. Says it: Ratho. It’s like they knew, the Scottish people from days of yore,  that latter-day Aussies would shorten it anyway and even if they called it Ratherglen Manor or something it’d still be called Ratho so they just called it Ratho and be done with it. Or maybe they called it Ratho after the Archduke Ratho the third of Country Ratho in Scotland I don’t know who am I associate professor of Early Tasmanian times?

Anyway nice course. Curated by sheep.

Score: Dunno
